LONDON, June 4. Replying to a question in the House of Lords Lord Selborne, First Lord of the Admiralty, said he was convinced the watertube boiler had come to stay. Even the Belleville was efficient if properly manufactured. In March last year the Committee appointed to inquire into the question of watertube boilers issued an interim report. The Committee pronounced in favour of watertube boilers on the ground that they meet in a far higher degree than cylindrical boilers the important requirements of rapidity in raising steam and facility of rapid repair without opening up the decks or removing hull fixtures. But while accepting the watertube boiler in principle, the Committee expressed the opinion that the Belleville boiler was not the best of available types. Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox, Limited, after having fitted the H.M.s. Challenger with, their Marine Water-tube Boiler, have received further orders from the BRITISH ADMIRALTY for the Boilers of H.M.s. Queen, a battleship of 15,000 1.H.P.; for H.M.s. Hermos, a cruiser of 10.000 LB.P., the latter to* replace Belleville Boilers that have become defective; and for other large Battleships. The UNITED STATES Navy have ordered from Babcock and Wilcox Boilers for the Armoured Cruisers Maryland and West Virginia, each of 23.000 1.H.P.; also. Protected Cruiser Charleston, of 21,000 1.H.P.; the Milwaukee and St. Louis. WRITE FOR PRICES.
