COROMANDEL NEWS.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] COROMANDEL, Friday. The entertainment,in aid of funds for the erection of shelter sheds at the District High School, which took place on Thursday evening in the Caledonian Hall, passed off successfully. Fully £6 will bo netted. The special features of the entertainment were the action songs and exhibition of physical drill. The infants, under Miss Egan, sang "My Dolly" in a very creditable manner, and were encored. The third standard pupils, under Mr. Jamicson, rendered the " Picnic," iii an effective manner, and in response to an encore, sang " Catch the Sunshine." The High School boys, under Mr. Gatland, gave an exhibition of physical drill, which reflected credit upon themselves and their instructor, and was encored. Mr. McNeil's orchestra, consisting of Messrs. Arthur McNeil (flute), P. Kelly (violin), Geo. McNeil (violin), and Miss Kelly (piano), played the overture to each part in a highly creditable manner, and elicited hearty applause. Instrumental selections were played as..follows: Pianoforte solo, "St. Patrick's Day," Miss Vialoux; pianoforte duet, "Shepherds' Evening Song." Misses R. Collier and E. Radford; pianoforte solo, "March Des Troubadour," Miss Louise Vialoux. A reading, entitled Scottish Songs," was given by Mr. McClymont, and vocal selections were rendered as follows:—Song. " Nancy Lee," Mr. McClymont: songs, Gates of the West" and "As Your Hair Grows Whiter," Mrs. Kidson; song, " The Pardon Came Too Late" (encored), Mr. George McNeil; song, " The Arab's Farewell," Mr. R. E. Janiieson, who responded to an encore with "The Old Brigade;" song "Sunny Spain" (encored), Miss Callaway: song. "The Deathless Army," Mr. Hyatt, who. in response to an encore, rendered "Johnny Kalmuck:" song, " Killarncy" (by request), Miss McCormick. who, in response to an imperative encore, gave "The Soldier's Song." The accompaniments were played by Mrs. French, Miss Eraser, and Miss McNeil.
