ADMIRALTY HOUSE.—A SUGGESTION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Seeing in the Herald this morning that the suggestion of Lord Ranfurly that a veterans' home should be established in Auckland was to be considered at a public meeting on Mqnday, I would propose, through the medium of your paper, that, the new Admiralty House be used "for tho purpose. When going over it some time ago it Occurred to me how much better suited it was for the home for veterans, which was talked about, or for the branch hospital for the Costley Home, than for tho Admiral's residence. Considering that the Admiral will never spend more than a few days in Auckland, it seems a foolish waste of money to lay out large sums in furnishing a house which is not likely to lie occupied, and the site of the new Admiralty House is far better suited to a veterans' home or hospital than the purpose for which it was erected. Surely a nice house, one-quarter the size, could bo built, or purchased ready built, at the North Shore for the Admiral, and the other (which most folks think likely to be a whice elephant) could be turned into real rise and benefit.—l am, etc., Utility.
