THE QUEENSLAND BUSHRANGERS.
RESIDENTS SYMPATHISE WITH THEM. Tin-: Queensland police have traced the Kenniffs to Augathella, 60 miles north-west of Mitchell, where they were previously seen. It is believed to be only a matter of time before their capture is effected. Chief Police Inspector Douglas has returned to Brisbane after a week spent in visiting the principal police stations along the western line, for the purpose of arranging patrols and supervising the movements of the police in connection with the search for the Kennitfs. Inspector Douglas says that the police find it extremely difficult to obtain reliable information owing to the sympathy which local residents are showing for the Kenniffs. The police have to drag information from them, and are then asked not $> breathe a word as to the source of the information, or the Kenniffs will be sure to come down and shoot them. The police were aware that the Kenniffs were supplied regularly with food, and when they wanted fresh horses they shot the ones they were using and got others. The police had found horses dead, and appearances pointed to the fact that they had been used by the Kenniffs. The outlaws had committed nc further depredations. Some reports of their movements bore a semblance of truth, but most did not. Some information given to the police proved to be entire concoctions. The police are watching night and day iu the hope of making a capture.
