Washington, June 20. The Senate, by 42 votes to 34, has agreed to the Panama Canal scheme it' the title is clear and. purchasable for 40,000,000 dollars, otherwise it is in favour of the Nicaraguan scheme being carried out. It is expected the House of Representatives will concur in this decision. ___£ It was stated last year that the French Panama Canal Company had agreed to sell their rights to America for 34 million dollars, including machinery. It is also understood that Columbia is ready to sanction a transfer of the canal to the United States Government. ________________
