BIBLE IN SCHOOLS— " CHURCH APATHETIC."
TO THE EDITOR. ; Sir.—'' Church Apathetic" has induced me to add a word to this very interesting subject. I At all times since the passing of the Educaj tion Act, ministers of religion have had. a j right to attend the schools before or after j the secular course of instruction has been j given, and teach their various variations of I "Bible in Schools." But ministers of reli- ; gion are too apathetic to do the work : they ! want the Government to compel selmolI teachers to train children for their various churches. Why don't these ministers of religion do the work? About 20 years ago the | Rev. Percy Smallfield was accustomed to give , religious instruction in the Pukekohe public j school, and I have known children who failed to attend the secular instruction to come at ' half-past three for religious instruction. I What Mr. Smallfield did could be done by : any minister, but it seems to mo they want ] a certain result, but they are too " apathetic." ! —I am, etc., Genesis. I
