ABANDONED ON AN" ISLAND. Thursday Island, June 7. A pearling lugger recently reported that ' one of her crew had been lost on Melville Island, while shooting, and that it was feared he had been killed by the blacks. Another lugger has since arrived' with the missing man, who tells a different; story. He states he was purposelymarooned. He subsisted on shellfish, roots, and game, and finally swam off to the rescuing lugger. \ FIRE IN WEST AUSTRALIA. PbbtH, June 7. • A fire destroyed Baird's hardware pre* mises and the Albion Hotel at Boulder. The damage is estimated at £13,000, and, the insurances amount to £4000. THANKSGIVING SERVICES. (Received June 9. 1.5 a.m.) Sydxey 2 June 8. Peace thanksgiving services were held irt most of the churches to-day. The large con, gregation at St. Andrew's Cathedral "included the Governor and Commandant, and many returned soldiers. THE DROUGHT. (Received Juno 9. 1.5 a.m.) Sydney, June 8. Light rain is reported in the western districts. THE CORONATION. Sydney, June 8. H.M.s. Py lades has left for Fiji, to take part in the Coronation festivities at th. Islands.
