LORD KITCHENER'S REWARD
London, June 5. The King has conferred on Lord Kitchener a viscountcy, with the rank of general. The Parliamentary grant of £50,000 will be moved to-day, which is the anniversary of the grant (£30,000) made to Lord Kitchener in 1899 for his services in the Soudan. The smallness 6f the present grant compared with Lord Roberts' (£100,000) is explained on the ground that Lord Roberts is unlikely to undertake a fresh campaign, while Lord Kitchener is still young, being only 52, unmarried, and that he may possibly have future opportunities for further distinguished services. „ Lords Salisbury, Minto and Cromer, the Sirdar of the Egyptian army and Others in all parts of the globe have congratulated Lord Kitchener.
