The Maharajah of Jaipur has brought £200,000 worth of jewels. ; \ The Maharajah Sindhia, of Gwalior, laid a wreath on Victoria's tomb. THE COMMEMORATION CARDS. A few flays ago it was intimated in our columns that the Government had resolved to present commemoration Cards to all the school children of the colony. As the Auckland committee had previously decided to present. similar cards to all the children of the Auckland province, there seemed to be some danger of overlapping, and the town clerk , (Mr. H. W. Wilson) communicated with the Government; intimating that 30,000 cards had already been ordered here. Yesterday Mr. Wilson received a telegram from the Acting-Pre-mier, -intimating that the Government Would take over and pay for the 30.C00* card's ordered for the Auckland children, provided the words, " With the compliments of the Government of New Zealand" are substituted for any local wording, and that the cards are handed to a Government nominee, which in this case would be His Worship the Mayor of Auckland. The committee in charge of the matter met and decided to comply with the conditions laid down in Sir Joseph Ward's telegram, and hand the cards over to the Government. % CADETS' PARADE. In connection with the gathering of school children at Government House, the committee of the City 'Council lias asked_ the Education Board to call a parade of school cadets. The matter will come before the Education Board on Wednesday. Meantime Major J. W. Loveday, of Wellington, who is organising the cadets of the colony on behalf of the Government, has telegraphed to the town clerk that lie will be in Auckland on Monday, and will arrange matters with regard to a review of cadets. PARNELL CELEBRATIONS. Coronation Day at Parnell is to be celebrated in the school grounds, Dr. J. Logan Campbell having by arrangement with the School Committee consented to plant an oak tree, and also two acorns taken from. the oak tree planted by H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh on Onetree Hill (now Cornwall Park), in 1869. COUNTRY CELEBRATIONS. •• Our Kawakawa correspondent writes — Great preparations are being made here for Coronation Day. A church service is to be held in the morning, followed by children's procession and picnic. The Kawakawa Rifles will turn out in full force, and sports and amusements of every description will be indulged in during the day, when all the chiAren will be presented with a commemoration card. A display of fireworks is to take place in the evening, to be followed by a fancy dress ball. [BY TELEOnAI'IT.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CoßoaiANfiftx, Friday. The Coronation celebrations in Coromandel are likely to prove interesting and instructive. The matter has been warmly taken up and funds are being subscribed liberally. The result is that a good programme has been arranged, and the functions are likely to be highly successful. Should the weather prove fine, the whole -proceedings during the daywill be conducted in the open air, but the hall will be available in the event of inclement weather. The volunteers and churches will carry out the morning's programme. •In the afternoon a procession will be formed, and will march from Fury's bridge to the Buffalo Domain, where speechifying will take place. A flagstaff is to be erected at the hospital, and those in the procession will salute the flag in passing. In the evening ft torchlight prooessioif will bo held, and a display of fireworks will be made. Three bands will be available for the day. The school children will take a prominent part in the business of the day, and it is expected there will be some of the young people present from the surrounding districts. Every school child attending the function will be presented with a bog of sweets, etc.. Paeroa, Friday. The Coronation celebration question wa.s discussed at the County Council meeting last night, and various Suggestions Were made as to how each township in the county could bo benefited, and as to what steps should be taken to fittingly commemorate.- the groat event. Eventually it was resolved .that the sum of £200 be apportioned as follows: — Paeroa. £90; Karapgahake, £40; Waikino, £30; Wsutckauri, £40. The Chairman said it was_ necessary for the representatives of each riding to make arrangements for spending this Coronation money, so that the county solicitor could approve of the way in which tile money was to he spent, so as to carry the Government subsidy. He moved, " That the Paeroa members decide how the Paeroa. share is to lie spent.' This was seconded by Mr. Bowler and carried. The Chairman read a. letter from LieutenantColonel Porritt, stating that £17 10s was in hand for a memorial to the late SergeantMajor Bradford, and asking the Council for assistance. He also asked for assistance for a flagstaff on Primrose Hill. A letter regarding the celebration? was also *ead from Mr. J. MeVeagh, chairman of the Paeroa Public Library. The letters, in addition to one from the Rev. .1. Belton regarding a milted religious service, were referred to the Paeroa members to deal with. SOUTHERN PREPARATIONS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS , association.] Ashburton, Friday. To-day the Ashburton County Council voted for Coronation purposes the" following sums:—Five pounds to each of the 42 school's in the county. £100 to the Ashburton Coronation Celebrations Committee, and £100 for a permanent memorial, ihe plans of which are to be submitted to the Council for approval. The total amount voted is £410.
