PLAYERS PUNISHED FOE HOUGH PLAY. Chbistchtjbch, Wednesday. At a meeting of the Rugby bnion last night six cases of alleged .rough play .were considered. One player, not appearing, was disqualified for life, and was warned off the grounds under the control of the Canterbury Union. Three other players were suspended from playing on Saturdays and two others were disqualified till the end of the season. ALTERATION IN THE RULES. DtTNEDiS', Wednesday. A letter received from Mr. Rowland Hill, secretary of the English Rugby Football Union, states that at a meeting of 'he International Board it was resolved for international matches to add the following to law 11: " Being in a scrummage, lilt a foot, from the ground before the ball has been put into such scrummage." The alteration has the unanimous approval of the union, and Mr. Hill says that at the annual meeting in Sep-., tember a proposal to embody it in the lavs will be made. LADIES' GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP. : * The members of the Auckland Ladies' Golf Club continued their championship meeting yesterday at the Cornwall Links. _ In the championship semi-finals Miss J. Draper had a bye, and the only match played was between Miss Gillies and -Mrs. W. R Bloomfield, Miss Gillies winning by four up and two to play. The weather ill the morning was fairly fine, and the scoring exceptionally good. In the afternoon the foursomes were played in spite of tho very showery weather experienced. Misses J. 'and M. Richmond proved to be the winners, with a score of 98— handicap 16— in 15 holes. Mrs. Reals and Miss Ware were second in the competition with 101—9—92. The bad weather in the afternoon militated against the scoring. « •£,■ This morning tho handicap match will played, and the putting and approaching competitions will take place in the afternoon. Should the present bad weather continue, all competitions will be postponed till nex* week.
