AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.
Th£ ordinary mooting of the Auckland Harbour Board was held yesterday. Mr. W. Ciiiuson (chairman of the Board) presided, and there were also present: Messrs. W. J. Napier, M.H R., C. 0. "Dacre, J. H. Witheford, M.H.R.. J. T. Julian, W. J. W. Philson, J. Stiehbury, G. Cozens, A, 11. Nathan, 0. Grey, A. II; Harris, and A. Kidd.
Coal Wharf: Mr. J. .1. Craig asked permission to extend his coal wharf 10ft on account of loose stones lying- outside the Inst pile. .The request was referred to the Work* »nd Tariff Committee, with the "view of the question of Mr. Craig being asked to surrender bis riparian rights being l considered. Resignation: Mr. M.Niccol wrote'T'esigiiing his seat on the Board on account of his removal tc Wellington. The resignation was accepted, intimation of the vacancy to ho im» mediately made to the Borough Council.
Wharfage on Stone: R. T. Graham wrote, as'.mg a reduction on the rate for landing stone from Rangitoto, as the present rateprevented him from competing with quarries on the mainland. Mr. Julian moved, "That the letter bo sent tc the Works and Tariff Committee." He thought something should 'be dona to encourage local industry. Tho motion; wait adopted. Shipwrights' Union: Tho secretary of the Shipwrights' jUnion wrote complaining that the Board's permanent shipwright was last week lent to Mr. G. Nicool, while five shipwrignrs were out ,of employment. The Board'i- engineer reported on the matter that the men now in the Board's service was previously employed by Mr, Niccol, who requested his services for a few days, which was granted. The engineer was- not aware that any members of (he Shipwrights' Union were unemployed. It was agreed to send a reply in terms of the engineer's report. Navy League: At the request of Mr. Napier, it was decided to supply the Navy League, London, with a set of photographs of Calliope Dock for publication in a work on Imperial coaling stations. Bout: It was decided on the recommendation of the engineer to purchase a new pull-ing-boat for dredgei No. 121, the present boat being unsafe. Counterpoise Stage: The Works Tariff Committee submitted qmended plans of site for counterpoise stage, and recommended their adoption. Mr. Cozens moved, "That the matter be deferred for a fortnight, to allow members to study tho various plans," and this was agreed to. Works and Tariff Committer: The Works and Tariff Committee's report was adopted, as follows:—Re dredging with Priest man dredger: That plan of proposed area and specification be approved and tenders called for the work. Re storage of logs. Mechanics' Bay: That the Waitetnata .Sawmill Company be allowed temporary occupation to store logs fit Mechanics' Bay, terminable upon one month's notice; rent, £2 10s pel month; area, to be defined by engineer. Re man-o'-war steps: That'jnan-o'-war step- be taken down, and re-erected 40(t south of the present site; step* to be widened to 12ft, Re grading of flax: That sheds on the Quaystreet jetties be gazetted fo» the grading of flax; that flax be allowed to lie graded in sheds, provided it will not interfere with the working of sheds, and subject to Hie traffic manager's supervision. Re breastwork, Breakwatc. Road: That tenders bo tailed for the work, as already decided upon by the Board.
