This is a decrease upon the previous month's returns, when 1994 tons yielded £4300. The total won 'from the mine to date is £355,412 3s 2d, as shown in the following table of details: — To December. 1897 £85,492 11 6 To December, 1898 64,052 6 0 To December, 1899 74.276 0 0 To December. 1900 70.749 0 0 To December. 1901 ... , 45,547 6 2 £340,117 3 2 Period endingJanuary 25, 1902, 1549 tons ... 3,406 0 0 February 22. 1902, 2082 tons ... 3.639 0 0 March 22, 1902. 1994 tons ... 4,300 0 0 April 19. 1902, 1989 tons ... 3,900 0 0 Total to 'date £355,412 3 2 PROGRESS-CASTLE ROCK G.M. CO. Operations in the Progress-Castle Rock mine, at Coromandel, during the past week have been, continued in the stopes above the bottom level, both north and south of the new rise on Reynolds' reef. The lode looks well, showing an excellent, class of minerals and gold occasionally. TUKEMAKUKU REEFS. Mr. A. G. French has arrived in town, and wishes to correct some slight errors in a paragraph in last Saturday's account of the Pukemakuku reefs, at Coromandel. The reefs are of good workable size as lead reefs go, and are well filled with easily dressable ore, containing 57 per cent, of lead, 8 per cent, of copper, 2oz of gold, and soz of silver. Apart from their own value for precious and base metals their tenure of lead furnishes 'he key to the refractory ore question in the Hauraki Peninsula. At present the only open door for the treatment of these is the sending of them to Australian smelting works, to be there furnaced along with lead ore brought for the purpose from Tasmania and Broken Hill. The Coromandel ore, which is in great abundance, makes it easily possible to meet that want without going out of the colony. It is intended "to send bulk samples either to the Selby smelting works in San Francisco or to Australia; a. similar bulk sample will probably be treated in Auckland.

HAURAKI No. 2 G.M. CO. The drive on the leader in the Hauraki No. 2 Gold Mining Company's mine, at Coromandel, has been extended a further 4ft. The hangingwall leader is 9in wide, and the footwall about 4in. Both give good prospects. The junction has -not been reached and the leaders are running almost parallel. Crushing will shortly be started. TE PUKE MINING. [BV TELEGRAPH. —OWN' CORRESPONDENT.] Tatjra.'vua, Tuesday. The Golden Link special claim (granted last Wednesday) has been disposed of.
