Sir STKw.uir Richardson was a passenger from Sydney ,by the Elingamite yesterday. i Mr. Stone, who has been relieving Mr. Edwards as chief steward of the Zealandia, has rejoined the Elingamite.

Captain A. D. Chrisp has been appointed to the command of the Hawea, Captain J. 0. Gregory going over to the Omapere. Mr. J. D. Perrett, the well-known artist, who has been on an art tour to Lake Wakatipu and Paradise Gully, hes returned to Auckland again.

Mr. Renaut, late of the Barwon, is now second officer of the Elingamite, and Mr. Arkinn, late of the Westralia, is secondengineer of the same vessel.

Mr. W. Ferguson, engineer to the Wellington Harbour Board, intends to leave on Saturday next on a visit to Australia., where he will make certain inquiries on behalf of the Board. Mr. J. C. Brown, manager local branch Westport Coal, Company, left for D lined in. by the s.s.-Moura on Saturday, having been granted' a. short leave of absence. Dining Lis absence Mr, F W. Brabant will act in his stead. The Rev. Father Kehoe, of St. John's, Parnell, returned from Sydney by the Elingamite yesterday. The many friends of the rev. gentleman will be pleased to learn that his health has been much improved by his visit to Australia.

Mr. W. T. Brown, of the Auckland Rowing Club, was on Saturday presented by Mr. J. Lovett, the deputy-captain, on behalf of the members, with a handsome marble clock, the occasion being his marriage with Mips Darrow, of the Thames.

Among the passengers by the Ngapuhi on Sunday was Miss A. Devon, who resigned her position as teacher at Helensville, having been appointed to the teaching staff of the concentration camps in South Africa. A large number of friends assembled on the wharf to say good-bye.

Mr.' John Harvey, .> very old identity of Gisbome, was amongst the"people from Gisborne who visited lately the s.s. Athenic. The old gentleman is 86 years of age, and lies not been out of Gisbome for over 50 years. Ke was delighted with all that he saw, and Marvels at what would have been thought of the arrival of such a vessel in the early days.

At Te Aroha on Saturday evening, Mr. 0. de Clifford, prior to his departure south, after a sojourn there of three years and a-half, was farewelled by the railway staff and his fellow employees on the line. During the evening a presentation was made to him by Mr. E.
