AOUATICS

Nearly all the larger yachts have gone out of commission for the season. Volunteer was dismantled yesterday, and has gone into winter quarters. Ida, the last of the big boats, will tie up at the end of this week. North Shore Yacht Club held its final cruise fo. the season on Saturday last, going down to Bakino. There was a good muster ol yachts and yachtsmen, and. the weather proving very fine, tho sail flown and back was an enjoyable one. On Saturday evening the yachtsmen went ashore us th'* guests of Mr. and Mrs. Quinn, a most pleasing evening being passed with music, singing, and recitations. The host ami hostess, with the hospitality for which they are noted, made every, one as welcome as possible, and all those who were of the party agree that the outing was the most enjoyable which they have yet had. • Although there has been some talk of newyachts having been ordered from local builders for next season, so far as I can learn there is nothing) of a definite character decided upon. Ponsonby Cruising Club's last cruise for the season took place at Howick last Saturday. There was a full muster of the yachts of the club, and everything passed off very successfully. Tho J'arnoll Sailing Club will pay over the prizes won during this season at the Exchange Hotel, I'arnell, on Tuesday evening next.

St. (Jorge's Flowing Club's annual ball, which is regarded as the aquatic social event of the year, is to take place in the Choral Hall on May 22. The committee who have the arranging of the details in hand have already made a start with their work, and no doubt the function will be as highly successful as those of previous years. The handicap stump race of the Auckland Rowing Club was the most closely-contested event this year, and was won by H. Clark, a tin's year's member, from Hie ids. mark.

Several pleasure oil launches are being built by local builders at present. This class of craft is becoming quite a favourite, and by next season there should be quite a. respectable fleet in and around tho harbour.

This afternoon the Auckland Rowing Club make a presentation of a handsome marble clock to Mr. W. T. Brown on the eve of his marriage. Mr. Brown has been a member of the club for five years, and during that time he has been most energetic in promoting the welfare of the club, as well as being treasurer two years and secretary one. With all I wish Mr. Brown long life and happiness, and hope that he will not altogether neglect the old club. L?nx.
