GARDEN PARTY AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

The, Countess of Ranfurly gave a garden j party -yesterday at Government House, at which there was a very large attendance. A garden party has been rather a risky entertainment "this season, when the autumn, usually the driest period, has been exceptionally wet. Yesterday was cloudy in the forenoon, but the day remained fair throughout, and in the afternoon there was bright sunshine. His Excellency, with Lady Ranfurly, Lady Constance "Knox, and "Lady Eileen Knox, received the. guests in front of the house. His Excellency was attended by the Hon. Mr. Hill-Trevor, Captain Alexander, and Captain Boscawen. On the lawn, which was in beautiful order, Hunter's Hand played a programme of popular airs. Admiral Beaumont was present, with a number of the'officers of the squadron. Refreshments were served in the ballroom, and the principal rooms were thrown open to the visitors.
