OBITUARY.

On April 21, at a few minutes past three o'clock, Mr. Robert Teniahau, licensee of the Hibernian Hotel. Onehunga, a gentleman who had been well known in the township and Auckland city for over 40 years, passed over to the great majority. The deceased was ill his 73r.d year. Mr. Terjiahau was born in Belfast. Ireland, in 1830, and when 50 years of age he came out to New Zealand." In 1865 he joined the detective force in Auckland, and was one of four selected to accompany the late Puke of Edinburgh through the King Country when His Royal Highness visited New Zealand. In 1874 the deceased left the detective, force i and settled in Onehunga as licensee of the Hibernian Hotel. Jas. Kerr, an old Waimea West settler, died on April 7, aged 81. Deceased came to Nelson from Scotland with his parents in the barque Fifeshire, the first immigrant vessel to arrive at Nelson in 1842. His father was the first-man who put a plough in South Island soil. One of the early settlers of Canterbury, Mrs. Davie, widow of Mr. Cyrus Davie, at , one time chief surveyor of Canterbury, died | on April 12. The late Mrs. Pritchard, who died at Napier on April 5, at the advanced age of 87* years, was a very old,colonist. She arrived at Auckland With her husband and three children in the ship Minerva in 1847, and they were in the Northern capital during the greater part, of the Maori war. In 1861 Mr. and Mrs. Pritchard with their familv went to Napier, and there the deceased lady remained up to the time of her death. She leaves a large family of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, the members of the two youngest generations being nearly 120. The deceased was widely known and esteemed. Another old colonist. Mrs. George Vaiise, sen., of Onehunga. passed over to the great majority on the oth April. The deceased lady, who was in her 77th year, was relict of the'late Mr. George Vause, sen. (who predeceased her by 10 years), came out to the colony with her parents about the year 1842, and settled at Kawkia, where she married Mr. William Jackson, and a few years later was left a widow. She married Mr. George Vause in the year 1855. and continued to reside at Ka'whia until all Europeans were warned to leave there in 1851, when she removed with her husband to Raglan, where they remained until coming to reside at Onehunga in the year 1871. The deceased leaves a family of eight children, 42 grand-children, and 26 great-grand-children, to mourn her loss. Mr. Lucren, who was manager at Timnru for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company for 27 years, died at midnight on April 10 after a long illness, aged 67. Dr. J. 11. Deamer died suddenly at Christclnirch, on Monday the 14th of April. His age was 41 years. He leaves a widow

and one son. Mr. A. M. Dignan, son of the late Hon. Pat. Dignan, M.L.C., died at his lute residence, Epsom on April 15 after a short, illness. The deceased, who has been connected with the Postal Department for the past 30 years, was chief clerk in the money order Department. The funeral took place on' Monday, April 14, the place of interment being the new cemetery at Onehunga. Although the funeral was practically private, there was a large attendance of mourners, including Mr. S. B. Biss (Chief Postmaster), and about 20 of the local staff of the Post Office and Telegraph Departments, Mr. 11. A. Atkinson, and a number of others. The wreaths sent by sympathising friends were both numerous and beautiful. Mr. Hector McDonald, an old Waipu settler, died on Monday at the age of 97 years, after a long illness. The deceased had been totally blind for a number of years.
