WELLINGTON RACING CLUB'S, AUTUMN MEETING. FIRST DAY. [BY TELEGRAM*. —PEESS ASSOCIATION'.] Wellington, Thursday. The autumn meeting of the Wellington Racing- Club opened to-day. Beautiful weather was experienced, bright sunshine and no wind. The attendance, estimated at about 2500, was satisfactory. The big event, the Thompson Handicap, was a one-horse race, Ostiak winning all the way. The Porirua stable was in great form, winning the Maiden Hack Race with Exmoor, an Australian-bred colt, who won in good .style. The defeat of Cruciform by Porirua in the North Island Challenge Stakes was a great surprise. Hewitt, the rider of Cruciform, lodged an objection against McClusky, the rider of Goldenmcre, for alleged interference. The inquiry was adjourned until to-morrow. The heavy going and big weight settled Abydos in the Welter. Red Gauntlet scored in good style in the Railway Handicap, after To Taiaha had made all the running. The sum of £9503 was put through the totalisator, against £8512 last year, an increase of £991. The results are as follows: —
