ENTERTAINMENTS AND MEETINGS.

» POLLARD'S OPERA COMPANY. A large house greeted the second production of Vincent Wallace's charming opera " Maritana" by the Pollard Opera Company at the Opera House last evening. The performance was thoroughly enjoyed, and without exception the chief vocal numbers were redemanded. To-night Audran's comio opera "La Poupee," will bo revived and to-morrow evening the popular "Belle of New York" will be staged. A matinee performance will be given to-morrow afternoon. DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY. The present attractive programme is drawing large audiences at the City Hall, where those popular and clever artists, Mr. Albert Athas and Miss Lizzie Collins, will to-night make their farewell appearance. Miss Alice Layton, the accomplished soprano, is announced to appear for two more nights only. On Saturday next Mr. James Harvey and Miss Madge Morris will make their first appearance in Auckland. Mr. Harvey is a mimic and impersonator of considerable repute, and with the assistance of Miss Morris, singer and comedienne, presents a clever duologue entertainment, introducing imitations of popular actors. On Monday next Miss Beryl Oilman will appear. ONEHUNGA MUSICAL SOCIETY. Tho Onehunga Musical Society gave their first concert of the season last night in the Forester's Hall, Onehunga. There was a very large attendance, and the audience heartily applauded every item of a well-selec-ted vocal and instrumental programme, which was carried out under the direction of Mr. E. J. Gat land. The concert opened with an overture, " Maritana," by tho orchestra, followed by a part-song, "Lovely Night," by the Waiata Glee Club. The same gentlemen also contributed The Swanee River," "In Absence." and " Bingo." The whole of these contributions were deservedly encored, and the following items were given in response: "On the Banks of Allan Water," " We Will Up and March Away," and "Sweetly Sleep." As the last of their items ("Bingo') on the programme was sung for the first time in Onehunga the singers delighted the audience by repenting it. The society was also assisted by Madam Chambers, who won loud applause for her artistic rendering of two songs, " The Dream of Home" and "The Love Song of the Mavis." In response to determined encores Madam Chambers favoured her hearers with Good-bye" and "Daisy." The appearance of Mr. George Higgott was the signal for loud and prolonged applause. He contributed " The Last Milestone and "The Yeoman's Weddin' Song." Mr. Higgot bowed his acknowledg ments, ho being too unwell to respond to an emphatic encore. Mr. Arthur Ford made an excellent impression by the manner in which he sang the two vocal items "Tho Romany Lass" and "Come Into the Garden, Maud." Like the other sharers, Mr. Ford was encored for both items, and he responded with "My Sweetheart. When a Boy" and " Let Mo Like a Soldier Fall." Mrs. "Hamlin was to have given a pianoforte solo, but was prevented by sickness from doing so. The following orchestral items were rendered by a well-balanced. orchestra, under the leadership of Miss Robertson : —March, "Honeymoon;" fantasia "Tho Queen's Prize;" march, " Prcsen Arms." Miss Holland played the accompaniments for Madam Chambers, and .Miss Mulkere (the society's pianiste) for tho other singers and the orchestra.
