THE PACIFIC CABLE.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wakapvaka, Thursday. Mr. Browning, superintendent of the Eastern Extension Cable Company, this morning telegraphed to Mr. Gray, secretary of the Telegraph Department, in Wellington, congratulating the Department upon the opening of the Pacific cable for traffic. The message was so marked that it travelled from Wakapuaka to La Perouse, Sydney, and Southport (Queensland). At the latter station it was transmitted on the Pacific cable to Doubtless Bay, whence it was sent on the New Zealand lines to Wellington.
