: : : ' ■ THE MARAROA. The Union Comuttiif's steamer Mararoa. Captain R. E. Smith", arrived from Sydney last even'intr, and anchored in the stream for medical and Customs examination, D. E. TV. Shannon, the port health officer, and Captain H. Parker proceeding off to the steamer shortly after her arrival. Everything being in order, pratique was granted, and the Mararoa berthed at the tjheen-street Wlian shoVtly before eight o'clock, when the mails and passengers were disembarked. The Mararoa has not made such quick time on her present trip as she usually does, this being accounted for by the fact that the steamer's'bottom is very "dirtv. It was intended that the Mararoa should be docked at Sydney for cleaning and painting, hut, although she was delayed a day over her usual time of leaving, there was no dock available to carry out the work. Of the passage Mr. James A. Tubby, the purser, reports: The Mararoa left. Sydney at 1 p.m., and Cleared Port Jackson Heads at 2 p.m. on Thursday last; made Cape Maria- Van Diem en at 1 a.ih.; nassed Cape Brett at 9.45 a.m. and arrived at 6.45 p.m. yesterday. Strong south to south-east winds and heavy beam sea prevailed throughout the passage.

AN AUXILIARY SCHOONER. An auxiliary three-masted schooner, the Torguten, arrived at Sydney on February 5 from Fredrikstadt, with a cargo of Baltic pine timber. She has been brought out for the trade between Sydney, New Zealand,, find the Islands, for which she seems admirably adapted. The vessel left Fredrikstadt on October 25. and had rough weather in t/iie North Sea. The run thence to the Cape was marked by fine weather. While crossing the Southern Ocean the vessel encountered a succession of heavy gales.
