Mr. Thomas Hutchison, S.M., ' was the' • presiding magistrate at yesterday's • sittingW of the Police Court. ■ Furious Driving: A fine oi 40s and ' costs was inflicted on a young man named Win Parker, who pleaded guilty to a charge of furiously driving a vehicle in Green Lane ' Cruelty: A tram-driver named ' Gilbert Elliot s pleaded not guilty wheu charged that he did, on December 25 of last year, cruelly ill-treat a horse, by working it while suffering from a sore on the near hind leg. The defendant was represented by Mr. J. 11. Reed. Evidence in support of the prosecution was tendered by several • witnesses, who deposed that the horse in question had a small sore on one of its M legs, but they could not " testify whether i'l the animal was suffering pain from ; the effects of tho sore, as it: gave evidence of, . ' having been properly attended to. "His til Worship eventually dismissed the informa- :- rr -x .tion. ■ .... ; By-laws: For riding a bicycle on the footpath at Mount Eden, Blanche McDonald £®t was fined ss, and 7s costs. ■ . . Wilful Damage: Joseph Mitchell- was : Mf:. charged' with wilfully breaking a pane of S'| glass, valued at 4s, the property of Martha Green. Accused pleaded ; not guilty. His l Worship said that, taking into consideration®! all the circumstances of tho case he was I inclined to deal with the accused leniently, :: | and impose a nominal fine of 5s and costs. 1 J A Savage Dog: A coloured man named |f|| Peter Gomez was charged that 'ho? was th» £$£ I owner of a dog which in a highway did I attack Thomas Tremaine. Prosecutor, who I is an aged man, told the Court that lie was • f proceeding along - Grey-street 1 early on the ' | morning of December 27,1901, when a poodle | belonging to tlio defendant, in an infuriated: j state, rushed out of a house ' and bit witness , I on the leg.
