The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, received the following cable from its London office, dated yesterday:—" : The sales opened at an average advance of 5 per cent, on last sales' closing rates for merino and fine crossbred, and 7i per cent, for coarse crossbred. Competition by both Home and foreign buyers is active. Wheat: .There are poor reports of Continental crops and partial .failure of the Argentine crop. It is estimated that 4.p00,000 quarters are available foi export. Harvest prospects uncertain. ' London market is firm, and we see no signs of its giving way." WOOL SALE. !• WELLINGTON, Friday. At to-day's wool sale about 1400 bales were offered, the bulk being sold at an advance of fully id pel' lb for good bright crossbred, while inferior and dingy crossbred advanced id to id per lb. . HAMILTON STOCK MAEKET. : A large muster of stock was . yarded on Thursday, including 160 head fat cattle. Wellfinished animals sold at an advance on last month's sale. Heavy, cows made up to £6 ■15a. Steers fetched up to £7 15s.' .The prices were Calves, 28s to 395; two-year steers, £4 5s to £4 7s 6d; three-year steers, £5 to £6 15s; empty cows, £2 15s to £4 5s 6d; fat cows, £5 10s to £6 13s; fat steers. £6 6s to £7 15s; dairy cows (only a few in). £4 ,7s to £5 ss.
