Their names were Bernard McHugh and Richard Code. McHugh was thirty years of age, and Code thirty-one. • The chimney of the mill was in process of being built higher. Ladders and a platform were tested and found to be quite safe. The employers went up first and made the test before the steeplejacks began work. A moment after they had ceased singing the top of the chimney gave way, and the platform, which was fastened to it, slipped. One side went up, and the other side went down. McHugh and Code were on the side that went down, and they fell to tho ground, McHugh being killed on the spot, while Code, died at night. ' ' .• ' The other two men fell on to the top of the chimney, and they were able to gain the ground in safety by way of the ladders.
