CROWN LANDS BOARD.

The usual ' meeting of the Crown Land Board was held yesterday,, Mr. G. Mueli< (Commissioner) presiding. There were also present: Messrs. Thompson, Darris, Lundon, and Rcnshaw. Summary of Lands' The following summary, of lands disposed .of from December 14, 1901, to January -23,1302, was laid upon the table:—Occupation, with right of pur- ■ chase,® 8384 acres; leases in perpetuity, 326? acres; cash purchases, 2619 acres; small "grazing run, 1296 acres; . mining district leases, 140 acres: total, 15.708 acres to 45 selectors. Timber Sales: The : timber sales for the period above were given as follows: Kauri, 6,661,982 superficial feet; totara, 180,403 superficial feet: total value, £4465. Expenditure of Thirds: The following schemes foi expenditure of thirds were approved :—Tauranga County Council and Opotiki County Council. New Zealand Timber Company: Papers in connection with the 2n!p.w Zealand ' Timber Company's mill, which should have been erected last May and complaint? from lumbermen ns to timber not being milled on the spot, were deferred until next meeting for consideration.

Sinking of Timber: Pursuant to a letter from tho Under-Secretary, it was decided to notify the parties concerned that their flotnge licenses would not bo renewed if it were proved that any totara or kahikatea logs of theirs had. sunk in river or creek, and were not lifted and recovered again within one month. It was also decided to insert a condition to this : effect in all flotage licenses in future.

• University Endowment Lands: It was decided to inform the University College Council that the Board are of the r pinion that it would bo to the best interests of the Council to take over the entire management of the endowment lands for the future. The resolution was, the outcome of a letter froirii the Council regarding offers received in connection with flax-cutting on run No. 3, Taupiri ■ -' ■ ■; ■ ■,■' ; Timber to bo Sold: A proposal to submit 3,595,607 superficial feet of timber in Whangaxoa and Mangonui districts for sale by public auction at an upset nrice of £2288 3s was approved. • Applications for Land: The following applications for land under the Mining Districts Land Occupation Act were granted:—John Say, 50 acres, Hock 16, Ohinemuri, rent £2 10s (conditional); Margaret • Berridge, 30 acres, block 16, Ohinemuri, rent £2 10s; R. B. Cranwell, 10 acres, block 16, Ohinemuri, rent £1 (conditional); M. Robertson, 10 acre 3, block 16, Ohinemuri, rent £1 (conditional); A. S. Slater, 7 . acres, block 2, Otama, rent £1 15s; A. Green, 50 acres, block 4, Waihou, rent £2 10s; J. T. McKeown, 3 acres, block 16, Kawakawa, rent £1 (conditional). M. Bronlund's application for 91 acres, block 1, Haratnunga, was refused, the land being last held by natives under Crown grant. Education Reserve: It was decided to rescind a resolution of the Board, passed on November 22, making lot 30, section 4, suburbs of Auckland, a recreation reserve, the same having been gazetted an education reserve.

Pukekohe West Road Board: The whole of the reserve, lot 62. parish of Puni, was vested in the Pukekohe West Road Board. Grazing Runs: The Under-Secretary wrote stating that it had been decided to offer the land in blocks 7, B,' 11, and 12, Waihi, and 3 and 4, Rotorua, as small grazing runs, instead of " unsurveyed." It was resolved that the Under-Secretary be i equested to kindly explain tho reason why the lands named should again be offered as small grazing runs instead of aft unsurveyed lands, as recommended by the Board. Kaw-hia Lands: Messrs. Thompson and Lundon reported upon their recent visit to the Kawhia lands, and strongly recommended that before their disposal 6ft wide tracks should be laid in to the block, the road formation to follow. It was decided to forward the recommendations to the Government.
