BANKRUPTCY.
A UEErtNO of creditors in tho estate of W. F. Swift, storekeeper, of Birkenhead; was held at the office of the official assignee (Sir. John Lawson) .yesterday afternoon. The sworn statement of Hie bankrupt, as . read by the official assignee, stated that In had started business at Birkenhead in , /May, 1901, with £400, the money belonging _. to v his wife. The business did not prove .successful, and the liabilities incurred at .-...'■■•'>'• the time of filing amounted to £490 7s lid, .'.;• against which there were assets amounting to ;.."/ £20612s 4d, leaving, a deficit of £283 15s 7d. Examined, bankrupt denied having put £150 ■-.;., of his own money into the business. After •'.'some discussion among the creditors, it was < decided that the official assignee should lay ; the case before the public prosecutor, with , a view to obtaining an opinion as to whether proceedings should be taken against " the bankrupt, the estate to be realised in the meantime.
