~ AUCKLAND SHABEMARKET. The market was quiet yesterday. In investment lines Auckland Gas (old) sold at £14, and Northern Steamship (paid-up) at 18s 9d. In mining lines great dulness prevailed. Buyers of Crowns receded to 10s 3d, closing at 10s sd, sellers lis. Komata Reefs were looked for' at 7J,d, : sellers lOd. Talismans were offered at 16s 6d, Layers 15s 6d. Waihis had buyers at £5 l?s 6d, sellers asking £6" ss. Inquiry came in for Waihi Grand Junctions at 32s 6d, sellers 365. In other lines late prices ruled. : NEW ALPHA G.M. CO. P The drive on the reef in the New Alpha Gold Mining Company's mine at Waitekauri is : now in a total of 176 ft from the crosscut. The lode is divided by a band of calcite country 2ft .thick, and very difficult to break. The footwall of the reef appears to be bearing away to the west, and the general character of the ore is not quite so promising as previously. A little water is making in the face, indicating a change of some kind. MARATOTO G.M. CO. ■;■■, In the Maratoto Gold Mining Company's mine the contractors advanced the new crosscut 14ft during last week, making the distance driven 339ffc 6in from the start. A recent' survey gives the backs at 140 ft intact on the Maratoto reef to the level above the crosscut. WAIHI AND UNION-WAIHI G.M. COMPANIES. AMALGAMATION DECIDED UPON. By Telegraph.— Association.—

London, January 21. The Waihi Gold Mining Company have decided to amalgamate with the UnionWaihi Gold Mining Company. [The above cable indicates that the shareholders of the Waihi Company have had the proposal formulated by the committee of shareholders in the Union Waihi ' Company submitted to them, and have approved of the same. The amalgamation thus decided upon will be effected upon the following lines:—Twenty Union-Waihi shares, fully-paid, will be exchanged for one fully-paid Waihi share. There are 48,233 of such shares, and about 2412 Waihi shares will be" required to extinguish these shares. The Waihi Gold Mining Company will take over the whole of the Union-Waihi property, including their 40-stamper battery at Waihi. This latter will increase their crashing power to 330-head, 130 at Waihi and ,200 at Waikino, which together will comprise the largest reduction plant in Australasia.]
