AN INQUIRY TO BE HELD. [BY TELEGRAPH.— I'RESS association.] Dunedin, Wednesday. At the City Council to-night attention was drawn to a statement published by Mr. Muir to the effect that in connection with the tramways construction contracts he had been offered free passages to Australia and San Francisco. A committee of the whole Council was appointed to inquire into the matter, as against an amendment by Mr. Muir to refer the matter to three ex-Mayors. Mr. Muir states that he had mentioned no names in connection with the offer made to him, and if the motion was carried his lips were sealed. • -■
