The Mackenzie County Council have resolved to present a claim on the National Mortgage and Agency Company for £920, for the value of a plantation at Lake Tekapo, destroyed by a fire started on the company's adjoining run. The Council formed the plantation by successive planting during the last 12 years, funds being supplied by rent from the Government plantation and reserves in the county, and the actual cost is nearly £1000. The Council propose to memorialise the Minister for Railways to reduce the railage rates on wool from Fairlie to Timaru,' so as to take off the main road the heavy wool waggons now. competing with the trains. llokitika, Monday.
