BOROUGH COUNCILS.

■ : PARNELL. The ordinary meeting of the Parnell Borough Council, held yesterday evening, was attended ~by His Worship the Mayor (Mr. Hugh Campbell). Messrs. Briggs, Fitt, Tevvsley, Gilmour. Brook, Thomas, and Petford. The business transacted was mostly of a routine character. On the suggestion of Mr. Briggs, the town clerk was instructed to write to the Remuera Road Board and the Newmarket Borough Council, calling their attention to • lie dangerous state of the footpath of that part of Manukau Road which is within their districts. Mr. Thomas drew attention to the bad state of the footpath in the Strand, and as this is under the jurisdiction of the Auckland City Council it was resolved to ask them to have the matter attended to. ONEHUNGA. Tho ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council was held last night, when there were present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. D. A. Sutherland), and Messrs. Colledge, Stoupe, Howe, Shaldrick, McLood, and Vause. Petition: A petition received at the last ordinary meeting of the Council from residents in Mount Smart Road, asking that a footpath be formed on the south side of tho said road, was referred to the Streets Committee to consider and report. .Footpaths : The foreman of works wrote, informing tho Council that the footpaths tarred for the first time last year are getting in very bad repair, and also that many of the other paths are breaking away. On the motion of Mr. Rowe, it was resolved to obtain about 5000 gallons of tar and dress the footpaths at once. ' Gluo Works: Mr. C. C. Davis wrote reminding the Council of a resolution passed by the Council to lay water on to tho glue works, and asked that it be given effect to immediately. On the motion of Mr. Rowe, it was resolved to adhere to the motion referred to, viz., that the work be done when the Council are in funds.,,, Waikaraka Cemetery: It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Rowe, that the Cemetery Committee bo empowered to fence off thai portion of the Waikaraka Cemetery not required nt present for burial purposes, at a cost not exceeding £10, on the understanding that no sheep be allowed to graze thereon. Rats: It was resolved to invite the public to destroy rats, and to pay Id per head for each rat destroyed and delivered to the turncock up to February 28. » Borough Valuer: Mr. Sydney Brookfield was appointed to make the triennial valuations during the term ending February 15 next. Finance : Tho treasurer's statement showed a credit balance of £51 12s sd. Accounts amounting to £72 '9s lOd wore passed lor payment. - Ferry-street: A letter was received from Mrs. Cavpn, requesting the Council to reopen Ferry-street to the public, it having been closed for some months by permission of the Council. The letter was received.
