ANGLICAN DIOCESAN STATISTICS.

Some instructive statistics have just been printed by the Anglican Church authorities, giving the material for interesting comparisons, and showing, as well as it is possible for figures to show, the present state and recent progress of the Church in the Diocese of Auckland; The statistics are most complete, and appear to cover almost every branch of Church work and finance,both as regards the diocese as a whole and the individual parishes. The completeness and the careful and intelligible arrangement of the tables are most creditable to those responsible for their compilation. They show in juxtaposition with a view to comparison, three series of figures: (1) The average of the totals of the three years ending June, 1899 ; (2) the totals for the year ending. June 1893; (3) the totals for the year ending March, 1901. It is satisfactory to note tli£-,fc in nearly every department the figures indicate that substantial progress has been made. Ordinations: No Europeans were made deacons. Six deacons were admitted to the order of priesthood. Church day schools: There were two schools, with a total of 86 scholars and three female teachers (St. Matthew's, Auckland, 60 scholars, and two female teachers; St. Mary's New Plymouth, 12 male and 14 female scholars, and one female teacher). Under this head may also he included the Orphan Home. Parnell. Religious instruction in Government schools was given in three parishes or parochial; districts, with a total attendance of 214 scholars and three teachors (Hamilton, 64 male and 60 female scholars, and one teacher; Ngaruawahia, 23 male and 27 female scholars, and one teacher; Eemnera, 10 male and 30female scholars, and one teacher). , The , teachers were the vicars of the respective cures. The vicar of St. Mary's. Parnell. elves instruction on week days to pupils of the Orphan Home, Stephen's school, and in two private schools. The vicar of Inglewood is not allowed to teach in the Government schools. ■ The vicar of Tamalci gives religious instruction in St. John's College school. Burials: Besides 303 burials in parochial cemeteries,, there were 319 others: —Purewa. 189; Waikumete. 98: Symonds-street,' 26; St. Stephen's, 6: total, 622.
