TROTTING.

AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB'S SUMMER MEETING.

CONCLUDING DAY.

The Auckland Trotting Club brought their, summer meeting to a successful conclusion at Alexandra Park on Saturday afternoon. The heavy rain that fell during the fore-, noon settled the dust, and was most opportune, although there was a heavy overcast sky in the afternoon the weather held, and the attendance was in no way marred. Spccu lation was brisk, and during the day the sum of £3735 was passed through the totalisator, making £10,595 for the three days meeting, a substantial increase on previous years' investments. The arrangements of the meeting were replete in every respect, and reflected the greatest credit on the secretary (Mr. C. F. Mark), who fulfilled the secretarial duties with his usual ability, Mr. Fred. Edwards was another official that reserved nraise, and he gave every satisfaction in his "dual capacity of hanchcapper and starter, the large fields that went to the post alone demonstrating this. Mr. YVm. Adams was most courteous in attending to the wants of the press representatives, and Mr. A. R. Harris was in his old position in the judge's box. , The principal event of the programme, the President's Handicap Trot, attracted a large field of 17, of which Balfour went to the post a pronounced favourite. The winner, however, turned up in Mr. Tozer s gelding, Joker who was handicapped by a Is. start, and gradually cutting down the opposition won by the narrow margin, of 3yds. this was a good exhibition of trotting. Another o-ood ra-e was the Telegraph Handicap Irot, m which the winner, Waitekauri, also gave a good exhibition of trotting, disposing of his field when three oarts of a mile had been ! left behind, although called upon to concede
