[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ' Wellington, Sunday. SECURITY ON TRAMWAYS. With the object of ensuring greater safety, the Kelburne-Karori Tramway Company has decided to replace the single cable with a double cable. The alteration of the system will delay the opening of the line till the end of the present month. There are already three brakes on this line, anyone of which is sufficient to hold the car, but to make assurance doubly sure the doaole cable is to be provided. THE YACHT WAITANGI. The spread of canvas of the yacht Waitangi, one of the most important of Wellington's racing boats, is to be increased. A racing mainsail, made by Laptliorn and Ratsey, of London, has come to hand by the Papanui, to order of Messrs. Jamieson and Geortreson. and will be bent on when the wet weather clears away. The new sail contains 1200 square feet of canvas, or as much as Mr. E. C. Mill's Rainbow now carries with all sail set. The 'iddition to her sail area will, of course, increase the speed of the Waitangi in light weather, and* the two races between her and the lorangi (Mr. A. H. Turnbull) and the Rainbow on regatta day (22nd ijist.) should prove lrcstinteresting. v ' THE REPRESENTATION COMMISSION. The Representation Commissioners, v lio are to begin their work shortly, itra as follows:— the North Island: 'lie Sur-veyor-General; Mr. Richardson, of Napier* Dr. Giles, formerly S.M. at Auckland ; and the Commissioners of Crown Lacds for Auckland and Taranaki. Middle 3*land : The Commissioners for Crown Lands for Westland, Canterbury, and Otago, aid Mr. T. S. Weston, solicitor, Christchurch. The next House of Representatives will cn.sisfc of 76 European members and four Mson« instead of 70. Europeans and four Maoris, so that the Commissioners will have to' provide : for six new districts. ANGORA GOATS. The six Angora goats which the Agricultural Department obtained from South Australia last year will probably be transferred shortly from Soame's Island to some inland part of the North Island. The Department is endeavouring to obtain mere of the same breed of goats. AUTOMOBILE RACE. It was stated at a meeting of the North Canterbury Centre of the League of Wheelmen that there was a probability of an automobile race being held between Invercargill and Lancaster Park, an English and a French automobile firm having each offered £100 in prizes. -If the race is held it will take place about November. .It was further stated that an automobile club will probably be formed in Christchurch.
