A* large number of the associated bri- • gades were .represented. Owing- to the absence of the president, Captain Win. Keyes (Mount Eden Fire Brigade), who ha* left the district, .' the vice-president, W. ■H. , Inglia - (Thames Fire Brigade) occupied tho chair.: •, '-, The .vice-president (Foreman G. Moore) ■ and the past president (Second Officer 11, F. Gladding) were present, and the following delegates, •, who represented their respective. brigades:— Fireman J. Ho hoped that the proceedings would be conducted in a harmonious manner, and that the' business to be transacted would be profitable to tho brigades connected .with the association. • The minutes of the last conference, held a.i Ctoromandel, were >read and confirmed. Cowan (Pariioll) the report, and balance-sheet were adopted. - Amongst the correspondence which was read,' was a letter from the secretary of the Thames' Piro Brigade Demonstration ComHiitte, in- , forming, the secretary of the association that ■ ' the committee had decided to abandon all' thoughts of holding the demonstration and' conference as intended at 'the Thames on Govern 9, owing to the lack of support from the city and -suburban brigades. A long discussion ensued :. and revealed the fact that there- was not such a lack o» support from. Auckland - brigades as there was thought to be when the- committee decided to abandon 'tho demonstration. Tho date of closing the - . entries was October 123,' and the tried from the Auckland brigades did not reach the scire- ' tarsi until "October 28. - The Thames delegate (Fireman A. 'Bateman) stated; that % had the , entries reached the secretary on October 25 the committee would have carried the demonstration through. On the motion of Second i. Officer Gladding, it was resolved, "That the '.. explanation given re the Thames- demonstra- '- tion by the - Thames Brigade representative bo accepted." !?■ On the motion of Fireman A Bal-c-man (Thames) it was resolved, "That rule I.be amended to read "thus: That each brigade shall-.be limited to two distinct team's to com- ,J pete in five men events -only." , The other notice of motion from the Thames was al-* , -| lowed to stand over for the further considera- - J tion of tho various brigades, viz., " That the > conference consider the advisability "i devising some plan by which small brigade: * . may be induced to hold demonstrations in, ,' \i their, districts." Some of; the delegates stated that ,l i •■> had been instructed by their respective brigades withdraw from the association.' He thought it would he a great' pity to disband now that the - association' had ; got' nicely * started with every 'prospect -of .*; doing 'good work amongst , the -.brigades. u Several of tho delegates spoke on the question, after which, to test the feeling of the meeting, Captain Cowan proposed, and:. Su- . perintendent seconded, "That the ' Auckland District United Fire Brigades' * As- * sociation disband." ■;•-.-= Second : Officer Gladding moved as an amendment, and Captain Butlev . seconded, ' " That ; the ' annual subscription he reduced-to 10s." Captain Cowan stated that he was in favour of and would vote for tho amendment (although he moved the proposition).- He strongly approved of i; the, association being keot together, if done in a, better spirit than it was just now. ..The;Chairman ; put the amendment to the meeting, and it- ' was carried by; a large majority. , As no invitation had. been issued to the association, ' Second H Officer f Gladding thought that the city and J suburban brigades could think the matter over of holding the next' demonstration in the Domain, and that it be referred, to the incoming executive. Strude, Captain C. : Cowan, Superintendent Fenton, and Fireman A.; Bateman were nominated,: but owing ito the withdrawal of Cantain C. Cowan and Superintendent Fenton. Captain Strude and Fireman A.; Bateman (Thames) were unanimously elected. V Secretary and treasurer: Foreman G. Moore, "in proposing that Fireman J. Champion be reappointed, stated that they could not do better than reappoint: Fireman Champion, as there was no doubt- that ho thoroughly understood the duties; and carried them out, in a proper'manner. ■ The motion was '. seconded by Captain Butler and carried "-■ unanimously. Auditors: It was resolved .that Lieutenant J. E. Williams' and Fireman "J. Mclntyre be appointed auditors. •: It unanimously resolved, on the motion of Second Officer Gladding, seconded by Captain G. Strude, "That, the sum of £2 2a be voted to the secretary for his past services." It was unanimously resolved, on the motioi' of Captain C. Cowan, "That a 'hearty vote of thanks be given to the retiring officer.?. On behalf of the visiting delegates Fireman A.
