. - ; WAIHEKE REGATTA. , A RECORD ATTENDANCE. ; The annual regatta held at Cowes Bay, Waiheke, yesterday, attracted a. record attendance. The p.s. Wak&tere left Auckland at nine o'clock with about 1100 on hoard, and there were so many, people left on the wharf that the Northern" Steamship Company '■■> had to ; ; despatch: the p.s. Terranora, the s.s. Waitangi, and the s.s. Muritai as well. * The s.s/ * Ohinemuri brought , a few visitors over «' from . The weather I was; delightful, and altogether, thejicene was very picturesque, whether viewed : from the water or from the shore'. Although the raison d'etre of the gathering was the regatta, it was really more of a huge picnic, and proved most enjoyable. Nothing occurred to mar the pleasure of the outing, and the large concourse of people was admirably handled by the Northern Company. There, were some 12 aquatic events, sill of which went off successfully, and ;; provided interesting finishes. The yacht Irish Lily was used as flagship for the yacht races. Mr. W. Alexander acting as starter and Mr. W. Oliver as judge.: Captain Parker started the rowing events, and Mr. J. R. Curley acted as judge. Miss Ashwin, the treasurer, and Miss Boxall and Mr. W. ;A. -'.Wilkinson £ the secretaries, worked hard to ensure the success of the outing.
