CHRISTMAS.
Is it now a, too-old story,. "Worn, cfFet-e, or shorn, of glory. That the angels once sang sweetly, to some shepherds in the night? Is it lore, or legend merely, That a strange new star shone clearly. And that wise men followed meekly while it led them to the light? Oh! we thir,st to hear that singing The true tale is yet as thrilling As when first o'er Bethlehem meadows to glad hearts it won its way; And the years but make tlio glory ' Of that wonderful old story Shine more bright!}- through the darkness ' with its radiance for to-day. And the song of peace is dearer, For the good will lias come nearer In this century of hope, and of prayer for
war to cease; . And the Christmas bells ring sweetly. Pot some Christian hearts completely Have believed the angels' message and have entered into peace.
So the merry children playing, And tne old men meekly praying, Shall usher in a Christmas that is pure anil potont still. , All the world shall lose its burden, Since God sends it for its guerdon Peaco 011 earth, with love and gladness, and fun blessing of good will! MARIANNE FABNINGHAM.
