' -DEFENDED CASES. - ' Guy Everard Malcolm v. R. S. Martin,' claim £5 commission upon the sale of a piece of land. Mr. Brookfield appeared for the defendant. Plaintiff was nonsuited with costs. , ' W. G. Phillipson v. Peter J. Donaldson, claim £7 14s 9d for work done on defendant's property at St. Heliers Bay. Mr. Pilkington appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. Baumc for the defendant. After hearing evidence His Worship said he would look into the accounts and give his judgment the following day. F. W. Boynton v. J. M, Conolly, claim £8 15s Bd, amount of indent order, for brass mounts, pads, and indiarubber obtained by plaintiff from the Van Houten Manufacturing Company, London, on behalf of defendant. Mr. Johnston appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. Baume, instructed by Mr. Martin, for defendant. The defence was that the mounts were ordered in nickel, and not in brass, and that the rubber was not that ordered. After hearing the evidence of plaintiff and defendant His Worship gave judgment for plaintiff for amount claimed, with costs £1 16s. '/'-I-

POLICE COURT NEWS. The Polico Court bench yesterday was occupied by Mr. Thomas Hutchison, S.M. Drunkenness: There was only one person, charged with drunkenness, and lie, being a first-offender, a fine of 5s was imposed. By-laws: For riding a bicycle on the footpath in Mount Roskill Road, John Robert Rep del I was fined 5s and 7s costs. A similar fine was imposed on Arthur Cooper for vdriving a vehicle along Karangahape Road without the customary light. A charge against James Williams, a "leader boy," employed by the Tramway Company, for allowing his horse to wander in ellesleystreet, was dismissed. Roger Lupton was charged with driving a vehicle round the corner of Symonds-street and Karangahape • Road at other than a walking pace. Two witnesses gave evidence in support of the prosecution, and each deposed that defendant drovo his vehicle round the corner in question at a trotting pace, which resulted in a collision with another vehicle immediately oh the turn of the corner. His Worship inflicted a fine of 5s and lis costs. Alleged Sunday Trading: The licensee of the Star Hotel, Otahuhu, Henry James Syms, was charged that lie did on Sunday, November 10, open his premises for tho sale of liquor, and, further, with having on the same date'exposed liquor for sale. The Hon.. J. A. Tole represented the prosecution and/Mr. J. C. Martin appeared for the defendant, who pleaded not guilty. After evidence in support of each side was taken, His Worship reserved his decision. N
