WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.

Wellington, Thursday.
MISS MAUD BEATTY. Miss Mato Beatty (Mrs. J- Milburn), who has been a member of the Pollard Opera Company from the very beginning of her stage career, and was; only absent from its ranks for a short period after her marriage a year or two ago, has concluded her engagement with the company, and is at present in Wellington, It is her intention to take a rest for a while, and to proceed in April next to England; where she has a good engagement to appear in the provinces. Miss Beatty, who is New Zealand-born, will have many good wishes for her future success on the stage whereeve* she may tempt fortune. VICTORIA COLLEGE. The gentleman selected for the position of Professor of Modern Languages at, Victoria College, Mr. G. W. Von Zedlitz, M.A., is at present form master of the lower fifth at Loretto School, in Musselburgh, Scotland. The salary attached to his new post is £500 per annum. BIBLE IN SCHOOLS. Bishop Wallis, who has returned from his visit to the North, met the members of the Ministers' Association in Wanganui and discussed with them the question of Bible-reading in schools.. After discussion the ministers present expressed themselves as favourable to the reading of the Bible in the public schools, and it was decided to discuss the matter further at the. next meeting of the Ministers' Association.. ~
