AUCKLAND WEEKLY NEWS.
SPECIAL 'XMAS ISSUE. 'FRISCO MAIL NUMBER. SEVENTY SPLENDID ILLUSTRATIONS. PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION j PICTURES. i FARM AND STATION SCENES. NEW ZEALAND INDUSTRIAL LIFE. LANDSCAPES AND SEASCAPES. UNRIVALLED VIEWS. . < I Thk special Christmas issue of the AUCKland Weekly News contains 16 pages o the most artistic and beautiful illustrations ever published in New Zealand. There are over 70 pictures, some whole-page, and all of them on a generous scale. They represent nearly all classes of New Zealand life and scenery, and together form one of the most attractive Christmas gifts that could be sent to friends abroad by the outgoing 'Frisco mail. The number includes the chief prize winning pictures of the Weekly News photographic competition, and these in themselves are a great attraction. They represent some of the most picturesque phases of New Zealand life and scenery. Yarding sheep on an Auckland East Coast station,, which took the first prize in its class, has never been equalled as a study of New Zealand station life, and the second prize farm scene shows a West Coast homestead with its main industrial features and its picturesque surroundings. i The New Zealand coastal scenes are de-'' lightful. One sees the Pacific dashing. against majestic cliffs, rolling or rippling over sunny beaches, lapping grotesquelycarved rocks, and the landscapes are no! less delightful. River scenes and lake scenes, wooded ranges and snow-capped mountains, deep bush gullies and open grass lands. Waterfalls and still pools, and dozens of other features that make New Zealand so charming and so varied. The industrial side of New Zealand is well, represented. The timber men are shown felling a gigantic kauri, and the tree is in the very act of falling. Shipping maize, driving bullocks, dairying, yarding sheep, ' buying and selling cattle. People in Grea' Britain or America studying this one number of the Weekly News can gain a very good idea of many parts of New Zealand, and New Zealanders studying it will gain a wider knowledge of their own land. The whole number is characteristic of the Christmas season, and will be welcomed everywhere. The special Christmas issue, though much larger than usual, is published at the ordinary price of sixpence, and can be now obtained from all news agents and runners. As it is expected to meet with a large demand for posting by the outgoing 'Frisco mail, those desiring to obtain copies should order early.
