AUCKLAND V. NORTH SHORE. Winning the toss, Auckland -dieted to l>at, starting with Qucntcry and Nicholson. The former had the bad luck to knock the first ball of the match on to his wicket. Whiteley joined Nicholson,, and the .-core was carried to 80. when Nicholson was out, well caught by McNeil, for a decidedly good innings of 40. Noill and Whiteley took the score to 162 before the latter departed, after playing a valuable innings of 40. MacCormiek going in fourth wicket, saw all the remaining batsmen out, and carried his bat for 76. It was quite on the cards he would have repeated his performance of last season, when ho compiled 175. not out. had anyone stayed long enough with him. St. Paul helped to'put on 50 for the last wicket. "Extras" accounted for 59 out of the total of 292. The wicket-keeping was by no means good, and time and again McNeil's deliveries were allowed to travel to the boundary. McNeil and Wynyard were the stock bowlers for tho Shore. North Shore lost one wicket for three before the bell rang. Messrs. Peak and Kent acted as umpires, giving general satisfaction. AUCKLAND.First Innings.
