ATHLETIC NOTES.

OTAHUHU ATHLETIC SPORTS. The Otahuhu Athletic and Cycling Club held their fourth annual sports at the recreation ground, Otahuhu, on Saturday afternoon. Tho wcatbei was perfect, and there were about 600 persons present. In most of the events there were largo fields, and many of tho finishes were very close. The club must be congratulated upon having such a level and editable ground for their gatherings. It is intended to lay down, a proper track for next season. Mr. S. .T. McGonagle, the popular secretary, and the committee had all the arrangements in perfeet order, and the judging of Messrs. A. P, Harris, J. Todd, It. Dick and T. Wilson was never questioned. A word ol praise U duo to Mr. Hughie Absolum for the splendid starts he effected. During the afternoon Hunter's Garrison Band enlivened the pro. ceedings. Alf. George protested against H. J. Fearnley, the winner of the Otahuhu Cup, foi jostling, but after hearing evidence the committee dismissed the protest. W. H. Saunders was protested against by F. Barton and J. Stannaway on the grounds' that he had not given the handicapper, Mr. Eyre, his correct performances, and thai Saunders is not his correct name. Saunders, who hails from Waihi way. admitted that his correct name is Goodison. but that he has done all his running for the past seven or eight rears under the form; r name and no other. After hearing both parties, the committee decided to adjourn the inquiry pending further evidence being taken. The following are the results: — Maiden Handicap, 100 yds: First heat .J. Martin, 1. This event brought out a field of i 8 and caused a lot of interest. The last time round Iveiui, Patterson, Huckstep, George and Glasgow were running strongly, and each appeared to have an equal chance of winning, but entering the straight Huckstep took command, and coming away won by 3yds from Patterson, George defeating Glasgow for third honours. The team to represent New South Wales at the Auckland Amateur Athletic championship meeting has been, completed by the addition of Henderson, sprinter; McAlister, running high and broad jumps and polo vault. So far Victoria has chosen only two of the 11. She intends to send Moir. sprinter, «nd Gardiner, hurdles and broad ■jump. Queensland sends six, including Hawkes. hammer and weight; D'Aroy Wentworth, the 440 yds, 880 yds, and mile champion ; and Corrigan, walking.

SCHOOL SPORTS AT CHRISTCHURCH. [by TELEGRAPH. —press ASSOCIATION.] CniusTcirPßCH, Saturday. The second annual snorts meeting- of the Public Schools' Association, held at Lancaster Park to-day, was a huge success. There was a large crowd of spectators. The massed drills by 2000 children was most impressive. There were 3500 entries, and over 1500 competitors. The Normal School won the shield.
