The military sports in connection with the Pinko Mounted Rifles eventuated on Thursday. rind were vrry successful. Slight showers fell in (ho morning, but by eleven o'clock, when the sports started, the weather was all that could be desired. In the morning there were not many spectators, but in the afternoon, which was the town half-holiday, a fair number were present. The To Aroha Band was in attendance, and during the course of the flay played several selections. Ex-Captain Cochrane officiated as judge, and gave every satisfaction. Altogether there were 15 items on the programme, and for each event there were numerous entries. The stewards (Captain Clifford, Lieutenant Strange, SergeantMajor Knock, and Sergeant Gregory) and the committee (the stewards, with Sergeant; Parr, Corporals Steele and Row©. and Troopers Brown and McKee) worked hard, and it is hoped that the success attending their efforts at this first gymkhana will encourage the company to mako the affair an annual fixture. The monthly inspection parade of the Onehung? Rifles was held in the Drill Hall on Tuesday last. in the absence of a staff officer the company was inspected by Captain Mcintosh. After inspection the company was put through company drill by Lieutenants Williams and Mason, after which the captain instructed the corps in the new manual signs for skirmishing in the firing line. Class-firing will be continued on the range on Saturday next.
