BRASS BAND CONTEST.
[lit TELEGRAPH. ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, Saturday. The forthcoming brass band contest, to be held here next year, promises to be a great success. Nineteen bands were nominated, and 16 entries have been received, which constitutes a record for New Zealand. The other three entries (Oamaru, Nelson, and Westpoit City) may be to hand by the incoming mail. The bands entered are Granity Creek Brass (West Coast), Denniston (West Coast), Thames. Navals, Waihi Brass, Rualiine Battalion, Masterton Municipal, Palriierston North, Petoue Brass, Wellington Garrison, Wangauui Garrison, Dunedin Navals, North-east Valley (Dunedin), Hauraki Brass (Thames), Kaikorai (Dunedin), Gisborne Brass, Taranaki Garrison. Already considerable interest is being manifested in the contest throughout the whole district, and with the influx of visitors from other parts of the colony a record gathering may be expected.
