Tho Bank of England returns shows -.he reserve to bo £23,860,000; stock of gold coin ami buillion, £33,045,000; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 46.91; in circulation, £29.285,000; public deposits, £10,371,000; other deposits, £40,298,000; Government securities, £17,525,000; other securities, £27,215,000. MONEY MARKET. Three months' bills are discounted at 3| per cent. WHEAT. The wheat markets are very quiet and slightly easier. Cargoes are steady. Victorian and South Australian September and October shipment, 29s 3d; New South Wales, prompt, 295; Victorian parcels, November shipment, 28s 3d. BUTTER, Butte; is very slow. Colonial, neglected, 110s to 112s; Danish, weak, 118s to 120s. The Wakaraii's cargo arrived in excellent condition. SUGAR. Sugar is not quoted. METALS. Copper is declining. Spot, £63 2s 6d; three months, £60 7s 6d. Tin is irregular. Spot, £114- three months, £109. Lead, £11 Is 3d. Pig-iron, 56s 3d. Spelter, £16 12s 6cl. WOOL. Wool is very firm, excepting fautly and short scoiireda ; The Bradford wool market is firmer. Common sixties, 18|d; super, 19£ d. At tlie London sales prices axe unchanged. Best sorts are in strong demand. Americans are buying best crossbreds.
