THE SONOMA The mail steamer Sonoma, from Sydney to Auckland, passed Cape Maria van Diemen at 2.30 p.m. yesterday, and should arrive about daylight this morning. The Sonoma proceeds on to Pago Pago. Honolulu, and San Francisco at 2 p.m. to-day. THE MARAROA. The Union Company's steamer Mararoa leaves Gisborne for Auckland to-day, and is due to-morrow morning. The steamer proceeds on to Sydney at 5.30 p.m. on Monday. THE WAIKARE. The Union Company's steamer Waikare is due from Sydney on Monday morning, and proceeds on to East) Coast and Southern ports, Hobart, j..nd Melbourne at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. THE MATATUA. A steamer resembling the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's steamer Matatua. from London to Auckland, passed Cape Maria Van Diemen at 12.30 p.m. yesterday, and should make port about the same hour to-day. The New Zealand Shipping Company inform us that the Auckland passengers by the as Bimutaka, which arrived at Wellington from London on Thursday, will arrive at this port by the s.s. Mararoa to-morrow morning. A NEW SCOW. An order has been placed with Messrs. Bailey and Lowe, by Messrs. Trimble and Co., of Otahuhu, for a new ecow for coastal work. The vessel is to be 40ft long, and will be somewhat on tho lines of the Vesper, recently built by the same firm for Messrs. Biddick and Sons. , THE EMPREZA. Mr. George Niccol ha* done smart work •with the overhaul of the barque Empreza in the Auckland Dock. Tho vessel was only floated into the dock on Wednesday morning last since which time she has bee.m stripped, re-caulked, and coppered, and will be floated out of the dock this morning. Tho barque sails for the Thames to-night to load timber for Sydney.

THE HEATHDENE. The cargo steamer Heathdene, Captain Milburn, arrived from New York and Southern ports yesterday afternoon, berthing at Quaystreet Jetty No. 2to discharge. The steamer, which is a new vessel, is a similar type to the class of cargo-carriers visiting the colonies, and is fitted with ail the most modern facilities for the handling; of cargo. Leaving New York on August 10, the steamer called at Table Bay, Cape of Good Hope, on September 25. A fire broke out on board, which necessitated her putting into Albany, particulars of which have already appeared m the HERALD. After calling at Port Chalmers, which was the first port made in this colony, tho steamer proceeded orl to Lyttelton and Wellington, and left the latter port for Auckland on Tuesday evening last, arriving at 230 pm. yesterday. Messrs. Carr, Pountney. and Cb are the local agents for the steamer. Messrs Russell and Somers being the ship s brokers On discharge the Heathdene proceeds to Sydney, fo„ which port she has a quantity of cargo. ______

She is on tho diagonal principle, with three skins, and nothing but. the best of timber has been used in her construction. Sho is to he fitted with a 27 horse-power Union oil engine by Messrs. W A Evan and Co.. the local agents, and the work of putting the engine into the vessel has been commenced It is expected that she will be ready to make a trial run in about a week'* time, and will then proceed to Dunedin to take up her tiawling operations.
