Mr. William. H. Lynch, principal of the Mountain Grove, Mo., Academy, is an educator who does not confine himself to the beaten track.
His 'newspaper Lour." described in the Sunday Post Dispatch, has been, a feature of his "school for many years, and has at last made him famous. Every Friday morning .Mr. Lynch supplies ail his pupils with newspapers. Each pupil is to read one article, no two reading the same article. Then one by one they rise and reefce from memory the substance of what they have learned. In this wav the boys and girls acquire a vita' acquaintance with the actual wor.d. History, geography, politics, art. literature are all vividly reflected in their minds as the background of the living, breathing world of action. , ~ , It needs no argument to show the advantages of this method. The dry bones of knowledge gathered during the week from the text-books are quickened into life, and information, often mere "filling, is turned into wholesome food for the mind, to nourish the faculties and enlarge the power of character. . , It is gratifying to know that educators all over the world have become aware of Mr. Lvnch's innovation and besought him tor a sketch of his career and methods. Mr. A. E. Winship. of Boston, an educator of experience, declares the newspaper hour "ought to be inaugurated in every school n the world." . ~ The schoolmasters is the most honourable of all professions, because its responsibilities are the most sacred. The rewards in dollars and cents and fame are not often extravagant, but in the world where things are valued not for what they seem, but for what they are. the faithful worker is sure of the place which is his.—American paper.
