MISHAPS TO STEAMERS.

Wellington, Friday. The steamer Kotwku, bound from Westport to Lyttelton, coal-laden, put into port this evening, having met with a mishap off Jackson's Head. It appears that while the steamer was taking the passage between Walker's Rock and the beacon off the head she was carried by a strong spring tide bodily on to the rock, striking slightly amidships. Her cargo is being discharged, and she will be taken on the slip in the morning for inspection. The steamer is making water, but almost imperceptibly. Dunbdin, Friday. The s.s. Pukaki left Dunedin on Wednesday morning for Westport. At twenty minutes to one yesterday morning she was observed by the s.s. Te Anau, on the way from Lyttelton to Dunedin, burning distress signals. The Pukaki was then about 80 miles from Tairoa Heads, and about 10 miles eastward of the usual track of vessels. The To Anan boredown on her, and at two a.m. got her in tow, and after a hard pull, on. account of a strong S.S.E. breeze, brought her into port last night about nine o'clock. It will not be known what the actual damage is until the Pukaki is got into dock tomorrow, but it is supposed her tail-shaft is broken.
