FIRE ON THE S.S. WEKA.
CARGO SERIOUSLY DAMAGED. Shortly after midnight Captain Taw, of the s.s. Chelmsford, discovered that the b.s. Weka, lying at the Onehunga Wharf, was on fire. The alarm was at once given, and the Onehunga Fire Brigade was soon on the scene. As an abundant &upply of water was available, tlio flames were got under after about an hour's work, but not before nearly the whole of the interior of the steamer was gutted. The Weka had a large cargo of general merchandise on board, which was of course very seriously damaged by fire and water. The fire is supposed to have originated in the bunkers. The Weka is owned by the Onehunga and Waiuku Steam Navigation Company.
