AUCKLAND. MESSES. ALFRED BTJCKLAND AND SONS* REPOET. Horses: At tho Haymarket oh Friday last -we had an unusually large entry of all classes. Draught horses were well represented, as also were lighter harness horses and good upstand--1 ing hacks. The best draught horse 3 ranged in price from £40 to £52 10s; others of a good class, £25 to £37 10s ; lightei and active, £17 to £21; serviceable strong spring cart horses, £10 to £15 ; gig horses and light hacks, £5 to £9 ; well-bred hacks, £14 to £25 each. The waggon advertised lealised £24 under the hammer, the pair of horses £17 10s and £25 each, and the set waggon harness, £5. Children's small ponies, £6 to £10 each. Torrington's Livery Plant : At this clearance sa!o on "Wednesday there was a good attendance of buyers. The plant, all in good order, horses quiet and of a useful class, elicited keen competition, and the whole lot sold under the hammer at fair values. Gigs sold at £3 to £18; Thome roadster, £16 10s ; double buggy, £20 ; single buggy, £17 ; light cart and harness, £22, harness, from £3 to £5 the set ; two horses, £18 and £21 ; ponies, £9 to £14 each. Hay and straw : Very little offering, either on Friday or Tuesday, not much demani; prices similar to late quotations. Hides, skins, tallow, etc. : The foroiei were pitched in less than average numbers, prices firm at late quotations ; in other lines we submitted and sold a good catalogue. The prices obtained were: Ox hides, 4d to 6d ; cow, 3Jd to 4gd ; calf, 3Jd to 5d lb ; tails, Is lOd dozen; horsehair, Is lb ; tallow. 19s 6d to 20s 6d cwt for good mixed; rough fat, lid to lid lb ; bones. 4s 6d cwt ; skins, 2s 9d to 3s 3d for best fresh or salted, and 2s to 2s 6U for lighter; dry. Is to Is 8d ; pelts, 4d to 9d; lambs, 5d to 9d each. Grain sale: Maize being in rather short supply, with good demand, advanced to 2s 3d per bushel, ex wharf. Inferior maize sold at auction from 2s to 2s 3d. No change in oats, etc. Chaff sold from £2 5s to £3 ss, ex store, according to quality. We held a clearance sale of Mr. E. R. Dowden's stock at Eazorback. on Saturday last. There was a, good attendance, and satisfactory prices were obtained. On Monday wo held our monthly sale at Pukekobe. There was a large muster of cattle of all classes, which sold freely. Dairy cows brought from £5 to £8 10s ; dry cows, £2 10s to £4 ss; fat. £5 to £6 10s. Fat steers were fully up to Remuors. prices, bringing from £6 12s 6d to £9 each. Store 'cattle were a shade easier : yci piers, 93 6(1 ; doublefurrow plough. £7 ; potatoes, 5s 6d a bag, wore some of the prices realised. At Remuera on Thursday there was a good mustering of stock. Dairy cows brought from £4 to £7 12s 6<l ; store cattle at late values. Fat and young calves, plentiful, did not bring last week's extreme values, but sold freely throughout ; fresh dropped were from 5s to 10s ; medium, 12s to 16s ; others, up to 355: no heavy weights yarded (70 sold). There was an average muster of fat cattle yarded, and all of good quality. Prices were firmer than last week. Steers and heifers brought from 19s to 22s the 1001b; aged cows. 16s to ISs. Steers ranged in price from £6 10s to £10 5s ; cows, £4 to £8 (210 sold). The sheep pens were well filled, and though not up to last week's prices sold well throughout, heavy wethers fetching from 14s to 16s 9cl ; lightei sorts. 8a to 12? 6d ; ewes, 8s to 14s (1300 sold) Fat lambs, plentiful, good sorts, 10* 6d to 14s : light, 3s to 7s 6d (400 sold). There was a moderate number of pigs penned. Those sold at late values. At Helensvillj on Wednesday there was an average mustei ot stock, which were freely competed for by the residents of the district, and full values obtained. At Taakau on Wednesday there was a larger muster of cattle than usual ; a full attendance of buyers, and all sold at satisfactory prices. NEW ZEALAND LOAN AMD MESCANTn-B AGENCY COMPANY (LIMITED). Auckland Wool Stores, November 2. Horses: On Friday, at the Durham Yards, horses were brought forward in increased numbers, and a good demand prevailed at prices in favour of the vendor. Heavy draughts sold at from £31 15s to £48 12s 6d; medium draughts, £19 15s to £26 10s; light harness horses, £10 12s 6d to £19 17s 6d; hacks. £4 15s to £17 2s 6d. Mr. Paterson's draught colts were not offered. They are now advertised for sals on Friday. 29th inst. A spring cart made £13 10s ; sulky, £6; waggon, £26; tax carts, £14, £15 15s, and £19. Cattle: At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday there was a good muster of dairy and store stock. Beef in average numbers. Dairy cows sold from £4 10s to £7 15s; empty cows, £2 15s to £4 Is; calves, £1 lis to £2 3s; bulls, £5 10s to £9 12s 6d. The beef pons were fairly well filled on Tuesday. Bidding was good and prices improved on last week's quotations. Ox beef sold from £1 to £1 2s per 1001b; cow, 18s to 20s; steers made from £6 12s 6d to £10 12s 6d; cows. £4 5s to £8 10s. Sheep: There was a very large muster of sheep at the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday, and for those of first quality advanced prices were given. Extra heavy shorn wethers sold B-t from 14s 6d to 17s 3d; lighter sorts, 8s 6d to 12s 6d; fat shorn ewes,- 6s 9d to 12s 9d; one pen of extra well-fatted ewes realised 17s. Fat lambs were yarded in larger numbers than for some weeks and sold well. Prime quality made from 103 to 15s; other sorts, 6s to 9s 6d. Pigs: Pigs were yarded in average numbers and met a ready sale at advanced rates. Porkers sold at from £1 4s to £2 2s 6d; weaner3, 7s 6d to 15s 6d. There was a, larger muster of stock at Waiuku on Saturday than for some months; everything sold well. Grown steers made from £6 10s to £7 ss; two to three-year-old, £3 15s to £5 17s 6d; heifers, £2 15s to £3 18s; calves. £1 12s to £2 Ss; dairy cows, from £4 5s to £7; fat cows, £4 10s to £6 10s.

Hides: Our catalogue wag an average one, with prices fully equal to late rates, cow selling a shade better. We sold stout ox, 6d to 63d; medium, sid to 53d; light, 4£d to sd; cow, best lines, 4}d to 4?d; kip, 3d to lid; calf, sound, 4d to 4Jd; stag, 2Jd to 2|cl.

Sheepskins: Large, salted, 3s to 3s 4d; small and medium. 2s to 2s 9d; dry, 3d to 6d less; pelts, 8d to 10'!; lambs', 8d to lOd; dry pelts and lambs'. 3d to 7d. Tallow : Best rendered in ordinary packages, 22s to 235. Horsehair: Best tail. Is to Is Id. Tails. Is 10(1 per dozen. Bones, 4s 6d per cwt. Maize: Sales made in wholesale lines at 23 3d o.w. for prime samples. The bulk of shipments arriving is of inferior quality. Oats: No change to report; selling at 23 lOd in wholesale lines. Potatoes: Market for old is very dull. Prices realised range from £2 15s to £3 on wharf. Chaff. £2 17s 6d at rail per truckload. We hold a special horse sale at Papakura yesterdav, when we offered 208 horses. Bidding for young active draught and tram hors©3 was good. Weeds and worn out tram horses wero hard to quit, although nearly everything offered was sold. Young medium draughts sold from £25 to £32 ss. no extra heavv horses offtied: tram and 'bus horses, £14 10s to £2fi; hacks. £7 10s to £18 15? ; weeds, £1 10s to £4 Jss. Hides: Good competition for all classes in sound condition. Extra stout ox. 6d to 6§d, no prime offered; stout, sjd to s?d; medium, 41d to sd; light. 33d to 4*d; cow, best, 4}d to 4gd; seconds, 3gd to 4d; calf and yearling, 3Jd to 43d; stag, 21d per lb. _ Skins: Local green, large, 2s lid to os 2d; small, 2s 4d to 2s 8d; lamb, 8d to Is; pelts, 9d to lOd ; country skins. Lowes and lorns report at their f ortnizhtly stock sale at Masterton: -Sheep camo forward in average numbers, which included several lots of fats in wethers and ewes. All good mutton sold freely, rough sorts failing to sell In store wethers, shorn, we yarded over 1200. These did not sell under the hammer hut found purchasers afterwards; shorn hoggets and store ewes also found a market. In beef we penned both steers and cows, all selling. In store cows we placed the built of the entries as also good class dairy stock. Fat wethers made 13s; ewes, lis; store ewes, 7b to 8s; store wethers, 10s to 10s 6d; shorn hoggets. 7s 6d. Fat steers, £6 12s 6d; cows, £5 to £5 13s; store steers, £4 10s ; yearlings, £2 10s; dairy cows and heifers, £5. Small pigs, good, 9s 3d to 10s 6d. JOHNSONVTLLE. Messrs. Freeman E. Jackson and Co.. in conjunction with Messrs. Abraham and Williams, report on their Johnsonville sale on November 19 as follows:—We had a full yarding of bullocks, which were of good quality throughout. Bidding was dull, and prices showed a decline in value since last sale. We quote beef at 20s to 21s per 1001b. Sheep, in short supply, met with a good demand. Cattle: Best bullocks. £8 12s 6d to £9; others, £7 15s to.£B 10s. Sheep: Best ewes, 153 9d; shorn wethers, 13s 3d to 14s 6d. STRATFORD. Ths Egmont Farmers' Union, Limited, report, Hawera, November 15:—At Stratford, on the 15th inst., we submitted a good entry of stock, mostly 12 to 20 month steers. Although bidding was slow we succeeded in placing most of the stock at the hammer. Fat and forward cows, £4 to £4 17s 6d : store cows, £3 to £3 14s; dairy cows. £4 15s to £6; dairy heifers, £4 5s to £5 4s 6d : 13-month to 2-year steers, £3 lis to £4 3s: 12 to 13 month steers. £2 18s 6d to £3 7s: empty heifers, £3 to £3 ss; 12 to 18 month heifers, £2 5s to £2 17s 6d; cows and calves, £4 os to £4 17s 6(1; bulls, £3 15s to £6. We held a horse fair at Stratford on the 16th inst., when there was a good entry of horses, many of which were of a useful class. Although the attendance was large bidding was slow, resulting in but little business being done. Light harness horses. £8 10s to £16: draughts, up to £28; hacks. £5 5s to £8 15s.
