POLO.

The members of tho Remuera Polo Club held their annual business meeting at Mr. Thos. Cotter's house, Remuera, recently, Mr. Thos. Cotter presiding. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: — President, Mr. Thos. Cotter; vice-presidents, Messrs. Thos. Finlayeon, H. O. Nolan, and P. Earl; captain, Mr. Harold Crowther; vice-captain, Mr. H. Cotter; treasurer. Dr. Mstitland; secretary, Mr. R. H. Wynyard. Six new members were put up for eleotion, which will bring the club up to a very satisfactory state indeed, as far as membership is concerned. The financial condition of the club was shown to be in a healthy state, and taking all things into consideration, this young club can congratulate itself on its prospects. The captain of the Remuera Club has called the members together for practice this afternoon, and it is proposed to hold an opening day on the 2nd prox. The members of the Auckland Polo Club are still strengthening their ranks with new ponies. One or two real good ones have been secured by members of the club this week, and they have their eyes on one or two in the country, which will most probably be seen in the field when the whistle blows. It-is to bo hoped that the negotiations now going on for the purpose of securing the use of Alexandra Park for polo purposes, will be successful. Mr. Norman Bank's polo crip winner, Pukeuru, has been sold at a satisfactory price to go to India. This pony won the cup in Auckland last year, and no doubt will uphold the honour of New Zealand in the sport in India. Very encouraging news comes from Waintraro. to the effect that the Waingaro and Rata Clubs are going to alga mate. This will be the means of considerably strengthening that district, and when the mueh-looked-for Cambridge tournament takes place I have no doubt they will be well to the fore. It is a pity, however, that a player in this district like Tom Wilson, who has ponies, should contemplate retiring from the game. I ehould imagine a, team, consisting of tho three Wilsons and H. Bull, would do justice t-> any club, and make a very warm quartette to play against. I understand that tho Bay of Islands men have had a meeting, and decided to form a polo club. They sent down last week for the necessary material to make an early start with.

In view of so many polo clubs forming in the various country districts, I am surprised that Waiuku folks have not made a start, in order to uphold the honour of the district in this branch of .wort, as hitherto done in all sports connected with the mounted volunteer displays. This season they won every event except one at the sports held at Alexandra Park, evidence that they do not lack the material, and T should say that it only needs someone to take the matter in hand to cause them to make their presence felt when once they enter the polo arena. The Auckland clubs would be very pleased to see them down hero to try their mettle.

The demand for suitable polo stock is still large. I hear that Mr. 11. Alan Bell is obtaining a draft of ponies from the Waikato district.
