to-day. Last night's Gazette (states a Press Association telegram} contains the announcement of the appointment of Mr. C. Colebrook to be Collector of Customs at Rarotonga, and Mr. M. Nagle at Penrbyn. Mr. John H. Howell, the new science master at. the Auckland Grammar School, arrived from Aberystwith, Wales, yesterday, accompanied by Mrs. Howell. Mr. and Mrs. Howell came from London by the Paparoa to Wellington, coming up the East Coast to Auckland by the Te Anau. Mr. Howell, who is a B.A. "and B.Sc. of London, has been connected with Craigmore College, Clifton; Strand School and King's College, London, and latterly the County College, Aberystwith. His' knowledge of botany will make him a valuable addition to the Grammar School staff- , A wedding, exciting considerable local interest, took place at Karangahake on Wednesday (writes our Paeroa correspondent), when Miss Mary Montgomery, eldest daughter of Mr. W. S. Montgomery, of that town, was married to Mr. James Sinclair, of Waikino. The ceremony took place in the Central Hall, which was well filled with many friends of the happy couple. The Rev. J. Bates, of Waihi, officiated, and the musical part of the service was ably performed by Mrs. Barlow Houghton. Mrs. Montgomery entertained the guests at a wedding breakfast in the Karangahake Hotel, after which the newly married couple left for Rotorua. In the evening a wedding social was held in the hall, the accommodation of which was taxed to the utmost. Messrs. Samuel Vaile and Sons hold their usual sale of landed property at their rooms to-day, when they will offer a fruit farm of 10 acres at Waikumete, a cottage off Newton Road, and 89 acres near Waitakcrci station.
